Affirmation: Your WOW Card of the Week Message

Affirmation

Choose to lighten your burdens.

Your Words of Wisdom (WOW) Guidance Card of the week for Living Life Better.

I think positive thoughts that change my life.

Definition: positive statement used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts

Other: declaration, pledge

Opposite: denial, negative

The word affirmation comes from the Latin affirmare originally meaning “to make steady, strengthen.” Affirmations are a powerful way to improve your mindset on a daily basis. They encourage positive changes, motivate, and can boost self-esteem. Affirmations are sometimes used alongside other strategies, such as visualization and goal setting, to combat subconscious patterns.

Magic, no.

Science, yes.

It requires regular practice if you want to make lasting, long-term changes to the way that you think and feel. Based on the self-affirmation theory (Steele, 1988) there is MRI evidence suggesting certain neural pathways are increased when people practice regularly. The ventromedial prefrontal cortex becomes more active cultivating a sense of inner peace. Healing affirmations are positive statements about your physical and mental well-being. Louise Hay popularized the idea that your thoughts can influence your health for the better.

Wellness is the natural state of my body. I am in perfect health.

-Louise Hay

There are numerous benefits to using affirmations:

Decrease stress.

Academic achievement.

Increase physical behavior changes.

Lower rumination.

Resilient to difficulties.

Encourage an optimistic mindset.

It is extremely easy to pick a phrase and repeat it to yourself. There are no hard and fast rules about timing or frequency. Three to five times daily to reinforce the positive belief. Find affirmations that resonate with you. It is important to believe in the potential of an action we desire. Also writing affirmations in a journal or on post-it notes and placing in prominent places you frequent can make them more powerful and effective. Translate thoughts into words and eventually actions in order to manifest our intentions. Affirmations help clarify our thoughts and restructure the dynamic of our brains so we believe it is in the realm of possibility.

Affirmations can be created for many areas in your life.

Here are a few examples to get you started.

Today, I am brimming with energy and overflowing with joy.

Creative energy surges through me and leads to new and brilliant ideas.

Everything that is happening now is for my ultimate good.

I wake up today with strength in my heart and clarity in my mind.

I give myself space to grow and learn.

I listen to my intuition and trust my inner guide.

I trust myself to make the right decision.

Living life better through the practice of affirmations can lead to a life you have only imagined.

Find the Good,

Becky and Janette
